TRANSPORTATION
Cars continue to pose an enormous environmental
threat. Burning one gallon of gas puts 22 pounds of C02 * into the
air, and an array of other toxins. Car air conditioners are responsible
for 25% of the CFCs * released into the atmosphere each year. +
The disposal of tires, batteries, motor oil, and car chassis is
a major problem across the country.
CAR RENTALS: If you are renting cars for transportation,
ask for the "economy ear especially if the vehicle will be
for a single driver, such as the location scout, film runner, or
producer.
ALWAYS CARPOOL when driving to location. You will
save money on gas, and you will he sure everyone arrives at the
right place at the right time. One busload is more fuel-efficient
than several cars.
"ECOLOGIZE" THE CAR YOU HAVE. All the
equipment, trucks should be maintained for maximum fuel efficiency.
OTHER WAYS AROUND: Support public transportation
and railroads.
• Ride a bike, and keep a bike rack outside your office.

ECOLOGIZE
YOUR CAR
Improve
fuel efficiency and decrease the CO2 output of the car you're driving
now with these inexpensive measures:
• If you expect to idle the car for over 60 seconds, turn
it off.
• Use radial tires; improve fuel efficiency by 4%.
•Keep the tires well inflated; well inflated tires can increase
fuel efficiency by up to 10%.
• Unless you are transporting items, unload them. The extra
weight costs you 1% fuel efficiency per 100 pounds.
•Use your car air conditioner less or not at alt. Find auto
service centers that recycle CFCs to service your air conditioner.
•Tune up your car regularly. A newly tuned car can have improved
fuel efficiency of 5 to 8%.
• In the U.S., 1,000,000 gallons of motor oil are released
into the environment each day. There are tune-up shops that recycle
motor oil. Have yours recycled, and ask for recycled oil.
• Recycle your car battery, too. +
