AUTHOR'S
NOTE
I
will tell you quite directly that it is no pleasure being the messenger
of environmental reform. For reasons that seem deeply psychological
and cultural, environmentalism remains essentially unpopular, open
to all sorts of sarcasm and condescension, even from groups that
generally take the road to reform. But I have to believe that things
are changing.
It is in this spirit that I am writing this guide, long before I
have received accolades as a filmmaker, because I feel the ball
needs to get rolling on this issue, and that real political, social,
and even artistic reform is going to come out of some right-here-and-now
type of shakeup.
And so I ask you to go forward in this little volume: find what
works for you, take the advice you can, think about it, and make
it your own.
I make some attempt to describe the historic and scientific reasons
that these issues are important, but ultimately, it is really up
to you to learn about the matters yourself. Once you see how many
issues interconnect, you will find your own reasons for action.
Thanks for taking a look. And good luck.
