ContentFilm Buys "WENDIGO"

(indieWIRE 12.03.01) -- ContentFilm, the new company from former October Films partner John Schmidt and producer Edward R. Pressman, announced the company's first film acquisition, Larry Fessenden's "Wendigo." ContentFilm will partner with Magnolia Pictures, ex-Shooting Gallery executive Eamonn Bowles' new distribution company, to release the movie. It will also be Magnolia's first effort, with plans to open the film in New York and Los Angeles in February of 2002. ContentFilm owns worldwide rights in all media to the picture, with Magnolia taking U.S. theatrical rights.

"We are thrilled that ŸWendigo' is our first acquisition," said Pressman and Schmidt in a prepared statement. "Larry Fessenden is a truly talented independent filmmaker with a unique vision, and that's what our acquisition strategy is based on -- identifying directors we want to continue to work with."

Sundance Channel Buys "Margarita"

(indieWIRE/11.15.01) -- Ilya Chaiken's "Margarita Happy Hour," which debuted at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival, has been acquired by Sundance Channel. The movie will debut on the network early next year as part of the "Inside: Sundance Film Festival" program. [Eugene Hernandez]
