You'll get another chance to see this film on Sunday, Oct. 29 at Anthology Film Archives (on 2nd Ave. & 2nd St, NYC) with six new horror shorts by local filmmakers. AUGUST 31: world traveler James Felix McKenney touches down in Toronto, Canada for the Rue Morgue Festival of Fear Convention where he will be hosting a table throughout the weekend. It’s fresh, original and immediate... ...you feel a rush of adrenaline as you sense the film wants to be as authentic in its emotions as the young couple strives to be. Lots of NYC locations, either seen on the fly or basked in — as when the nearly broke couple sells their belongings on the stoop of his brownstone—add to the spontaneity filmmaker Jeff Winner achieves in the give-and take between the lovers... ...Geary’s face is unfailingly expressive and Szostak delivers one of the year’s best performances, conveying Ro’s impulsiveness, bravery and conflicting drives. One hesitates to pigeonhole so sure and lighthanded a film by referring to it as a relationship movie or a date movie, although this film year has yet to offer a better example of either. A gap-toothed French model with a faint, untraceable accent, Ms. Szostak combines Audrey Tautou's gamine beauty with the seething inner turbulence of Jeanne Moreau's Catherine in "Jules and Jim."... ..."Satellite" is not a profound film, but it touches a chord. It captures the wistful underside of the rampant materialism embraced by the young professional class. Fervently believing in unconditional love, it puts it to the test, and it passes, but just barely.
